Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s entourage will be reduced to half from Monday while travelling in Guwahati city.
The chief minister’s entourage currently has around 22-23 vehicles including escort, security and other official vehicles. This will be cut down to around eight vehicles. Sarma said that the state cabinet held a meeting on Saturday in which the decision to reduce the number of vehicles in the CM’s entourage was taken.
He said, “A decision has been taken that the Chief Minister’s entourage will be reduced to some 7-8 vehicles in the city. Even if any minister is travelling with me, he or she doesn’t need to bring their own convoy while in the city.”
The CM said that it’s the duty of the state police to ensure safety of all and not only the state’s chief minister.
The chief minister added that another decision taken at the cabinet meeting was not to provide any security or government accommodation to any former chief minister from now onwards.
“Earlier, every former Chief Minister used to get a house and security cover. But it has been decided that from my tenure onwards, no former Chief Minister will be entitled for any such facility. Security will be provided by police only if there is a threat perception to the former CM. All the previous Chief Ministers will continue to get the facility but it will be stopped from now onwards,” Sarma said.
