Itanagar: Security forces and Arunachal police said they have managed to apprehend six hardcore and active insurgents of the NSCN-R and ENNG from Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district in the last few days.
Changlang Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo said a joint team of the 9 Assam Rifles and Changlang Police apprehended two active cadres of NSCN-R from Nakang area of the district on Sunday, and recovered opium, mobile phones and other incriminating articles from their possession.
“The arrested cadres have been identified as self-styled corporal Wangphik Khosai (20) and self-styled 2nd lieutenant Ngongpong Hondique (30),” the SP said.
In another incident, the 14 Rajput Regiment of the Indian Army, in coordination with Changlang Police, apprehended 4 active cadres of the Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG) from Namphai-II and Nampong areas on Saturday, and recovered several mobile phones, SIM cards and foreign currencies from them.
The arrested individuals were identified as self-styled captain Wangjan Pangtha (40), self-styled corporal Monpi Mamai (27), self-styled private Nyalu Wangsa (24) and Hunsela Tikhak (24).
“These cadres were in the NSCN-K and NSCN-R earlier and had later joined the ENNG,” SP Gambo said.
All the arrested cadres were involved in forceful extortion cases in Changlang and Tirap districts.
The SP added that the “nefarious designs of the insurgent groups to carry out extortion in Tirap, Changlang and Longding region has been foiled by the security forces and Changlang district police”.
