Aizawl: Mizoram has started to see a marginal dip in its daily tally of novel coronavirus cases since October 15 as the state registered single daily cases of below 1,000 for the four consecutive day on Monday. The average positivity rate was 12.62 per cent. 

The northeastern state on Monday reported 249 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest in two months (since August 17), taking the state’s caseload to 1,12,848, according to a health official.

However, the single-day tally is usually less on Mondays as several testing centers, including the RT-PCR laboratory at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), remain closed on Sundays, the official said.

Monday’s case count was 699 less than the previous day of 948 cases and the single-day positivity rate also dipped to 10.11 per cent from 13.69 per cent on Sunday. 

The death toll rose to 386 as three more people have succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, the official said. As many as 1,389 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 1,00,829.

The number of active cases came down to 11,633- from 12,776 on the previous day- and constitute 10.30 per cent of the total caseload, he said.

The recovery rate among Covid-19 cases has increased to 89.34 per cent on Monday from 88.31 per cent on Sunday, while the death rate remains at 0.34 per cent.

The 249 fresh cases were reported from 10 districts out of 11 with Aizawl registering the highest at 145, followed by Serchhip (30) and Saitual (20), according to a statement by state information and public relations department.

At least 58 children were among the newly-infected people, it said.

According to state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), more than 12.22 lakh samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, of which 2,464 samples were tested on Sunday.

As regard vaccination, the government has administered 11.8 lakh doses to beneficiaries till October 16, of which over 6.9 lakh people have received the first dose and 4.9 lakh people have been fully vaccinated, state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi said.
