Guwahati: Sleuths of Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) are likely to grill arrested Assam Police deputy inspector general (DIG) Rounak Ali Hazarika in the Guwahati Central Jail in connection with his disproportionate asset case, highly-placed sources informed.
Hazarika was remanded to 14-day judicial custody by the court of Special Judge on Saturday granting the SVC permission to interrogate him inside jail if necessary.
The investigation of CM’s SVC exposed that there are records of cash deposits from many undisclosed sources.
Two such depositors have been grilled by the investigation agency on Sunday, while some others have been summoned for interrogation, sources said.
Apart from a salary account in the State Bank of India (SBI), the IPS officer and his family members have accounts in Axis Bank, Yes Bank etc. and huge amounts are deposited in cash, while he was posted in Bongaigaon from 2019-202. Hazarika was arrested by CM’s SVC on October 5 in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case.
Hazarika, who was the DIG of Border Wing of Assam Police, was suspended from his post on July 20 this year for several foreign trips without prior permission from the government.
A case was registered in the Vigilance PS vide No. 06/2021 under sections 13(1)(a)(b)/13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 initiated as per approval of Chief Minister vide No. U/O No. CMS (V) 07/2021 on Monday (October 5, 2021).

During the enquiry, it was revealed that Hazarika possessed immovable and movable assets disproportionate to his known sources of income from 1992 to 2021.
Hazarika also incurred over Rs 1.74 crore as the educational expenditure of his two children to date.

From the international travel history of Rounak Ali Hazarika, it was revealed that he travelled abroad nine times without permission from the competent authority, sources said.
Apart from his house at Hengrabari, the senior IPS officer also owned a house in Dhirenpara (which was used as a godown), a residential house in the Downtown area in Guwahati, and a resort in his wife’s name in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
