Imphal: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday said India’s development is incomplete without the development of Northeast Region.
He was inaugurating the ‘Phytopharmaceutical Lab’ at the Institute of Bioresources & Sustainable Development (IBSD) at Takyelpat in Imphal West today.
The Vice President said PM Narendra Modi has been giving “top most priority” for the development of NE region and that is the reason why a number of ministers (MoS) from the Center have been frequently visiting the region to oversee developments works and the situation.
“The northeast is unique in many ways; in terms of culture, geographical grandeur, in linguistic diversity. And more importantly, the northeast region also has the critical Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspots, which has a rich variety of eco-sytem,” he said.
Naidu also praised the “truly commendable exceptional work” carried out by the institute and the scientific management of bioresources of Indian region from this biodiversity hot-spot for sustainable development.
“And, by using modern technology, the Department of Biotechnology is promoting the phytopharmaceutical mission in the region, promoting the traditional healthcare of the region based on its rich bioresources,” he said.
The inaugural of the Phytopharmaceutical Lab was attended by Manipur Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with his some of his council of ministers.
