Kohima: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Monday informed that all forms of democratic agitation against the state government over the issue of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) have been called off, as the state has “complied with the demands of the federation in toto”.

NSF president Kegwayhun Tep and general secretary Supuni NG Philo said the federation has been pressing the government for implementation of the NSSB to promote meritocracy in the recruitment process to various Group C posts in the administration.

After a “prolonged and strenuous journey”, the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department (P&AR) publicly notified that the NSSB Regulations 2020 would come into force from July 31 last year.

“While the process was on for making the NSSB functional, there were certain demands to restructure the NSSB and the process of its functionalisation was kept on hold for more than a year,” the NSF informed.

The student leaders said keeping in mind the urgency of the matter and taking forward the plight of the aspirants, a reminder was made to the state Chief Secretary for early implementation of the NSSB.

“Due to the non-receipt of any positive response from the state government, the federation was compelled to serve an ultimatum for implementation of NSSB on September 3, 2021, within 30 days with the rider that its failure would result in democratic agitation,” the NSF said.

As the student body was “more than prepared” to take to the streets, it said the government wrote to the NSF stating that ‘on the direction of the cabinet”, advertisements dated October 4, 2021, for the posts of chairperson, members, secretary–cum-controller of examinations, and assistant controllers, have been released.

The student body acknowledged the present government led by Chief Minister Neiphui Rio for responding to the call of the Naga youth and students by “ensuring that positive steps towards the earliest implementation of the NSSB were initiated”.

It also appealed to the government to expedite the process and ensure that examinations under the purview of NSSB are held within this calendar year.
