A gram sabha meeting in Tripura

Agartala: In a move to enable transparency and accountability in the functioning of gram panchayats and strengthen the democratic process at grassroots level, the state government will organise gram sabhas across the state on October 2 next.

The sabhas would be conducted to discuss common problems and find solutions with an aim to enable transparency and accountability in the functioning of gram panchayats and villages committees.

A memorandum issued from the rural development department by additional secretary to the government of Tripura, D Reang, said, like previous years, this year also each gram panchayat and village committee will organise the gram/village sabhas on October 2.

“The sabhas will be organised in a befitting manner, ensuring the participation of the weaker sections, SHGs, frontline workers of the line department, etc., to deliberate on several key issues. During the sabhas, the People’s Plan Campaign (PPC) 2021 would be rolled out and presented by the frontline workers,” the memorandum reads. 

A discussion session would be held on the issue of drinking water and sanitation, and to conduct the meeting of village water and sanitation committee under Jal Jeevan Mission from 10 am to 12 noon. 

Implementation of 30 week activities, under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, and awareness on artificial insemination in the selected gram panchayats and village committees will start from 1-7th October.  

All Block Development Officers (BDOs) have been directed to depute at least one official from the block level to attend the gram and village sabha on the said date.
