Imphal: In an early morning operation on Thursday, a joint team of Thoubal Police seized demonetised currency notes of Rs 1,000 domination worth Rs 12 crore hidden in a hut. 

According to police, the search operation was carried out based on intelligence inputs. They have also arrested two people in this case. The currency note were found hidden in a locked hut in Keirao Wangkham area in Imphal East District.

The owner of the hut, identified as Chungkham Dewan Singh, 50, son of Ch. Jugindro Singh of Keirao Wangkhem, Ngarian Chingkhong Leikai, was arrested. Following his questioning, the police arrested Chingakham Surchandra Singh, 40, son of Ch. Deben Singh, of the same area in Imphal East District.

The police said on further questioning the arrested persons revealed that the currency notes were brought by one Thingram Tony of Keirao along with his nephew Anun of Waithou Thiyam Khunjao and handed it over to them. 

The arrested persons along with seized notes were handed over to O.C. Irilbung P.S. for further investigation.
