Kohima: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Tuesday said that it is deeply disturbed by the abduction and subsequent “gruesome killing” of Athuan Abonmai, former president of the Zeliangrong Baudi on September 22 at Pallong village under Tamenlong district of Manipur.
The NSF condemned the “barbaric act” perpetrated by some anti-societal elements which outraged the sentiments of the Naga populace and beyond.
“While the entire region is collectively striving towards lasting peace and stability, to bring about a life of dignity and the shared purpose of peaceful coexistence and respectful relationships, such inhumane and diabolical act negates the very aspiration of the general populace and ought to be out rightly condemned by all right thinking citizens,” NSF president Kegwayhun Tep said.
The NSF also appealed for peace and unity in all the Naga inhabited areas among various stakeholders, civil society organisations and individuals to co-operate in the days to come, while also sparing no efforts to uproot the elements and practices which are against the social and economic progress of the people.
“We must respect each other’s history and basic human rights, accept each others differences and value the common interests so as to establish a secure future where the entire region will thrive together in harmony,” Tep added.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Police apprehended two suspects in the murder case. The suspects were identified as Ponthalung Panmei, 47, and Lanchapou Bosco Gonmei, 48.
The accused were produced before the CJM Imphal West Judge, after which the duo was remanded to 9 days of judicial custody to further investigation.
