85% COVID cases in Aizawl through contact with friends, neighbours: Study

Aizawl: Mizoram is likely to get two mobile vans equipped with RT-PCR facilities from the Centre, ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) party sources said.

Lok Sabha Member C. Lalrosanga and newly-appointed Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the chief minister Rosangzuala on Friday called on Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in Delhi during which the Union minister informed them that the Centre will provide two RT-PCR mobile van (Infectious Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, I – LAB), the sources said.

The Union Health Minister also informed the two leaders that more ventilators and ICU related equipment will be provided to the state as per request from Chief Minister Zoramthanga and Health Minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana, it said.

Mizoram on Friday reported 1,257 new Covid-19 cases, 37 less than the previous day, with the tally rising to 85,366, an official said.The death toll rose to 285 as seven more people have succumbed to the infection, he said.

At least 252 children and a Border Security Force (BSD) jawan were among the newly infected people, he said.

The fresh cases were reported from various districts with Aizawl district reporting the highest at 897, followed by Lunglei at 100 and Lawngtlai at 67, he said. At least 639 patients have developed symptoms of Covid-19, he said.

Mizoram now has 14,997 active cases, while  70,084 people have recovered from the infection. At least 751 people have recovered from the infection on Friday. The recovery rate among Covid-19 patients is 82 per cent and the death rate is 0.33 per cent.

The state has conducted more than 10.51 lakh sample tests for Covid-19 till date.

According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 6.76 lakh people have been vaccinated till Thursday, of which 4 lakh people have received full doses.
