Agartala: Tripura is in a good position in comparison to many states of the country. Therefore, there is no need for a lockdown or night curfew, for now, said education minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Addressing a press conference, Nath said the health secretary JK Sinha is reviewing the Corona situation every day. “The district and police administrations have started joint operation for mask enforcement in Tripura. We have no plan of imposing lockdown or a night curfew,” Nath added.

Adequate Preparation

Nath said the state has adequate hospital beds, ICU, oxygen and ventilators. They have also made additional arrangements for treatment, he added.

“At present, there are 509 beds in GB Hospital and 175 beds in dedicated COVID Hospital. Of these, 121 have oxygen and 54 are ICU beds. We also have 30 ventilators. The BSF’s dedicated COVID Healthcare Centre at Shalbagan has 150 beds with oxygen facilities and the ILS Hospital has 20 beds for Corona treatment,” Nath added.

The total number of corona cases in Tripura till April 16 was 33,933. Of these, 383 are currently active cases. However, only 47 patients are currently in hospital. The rest are in isolation at home, while samples of 6,62,609 people have already been tested in Tripura so far.

At present, the Coronavirus testing facility is available in the state and all district hospitals, except Sepahijala and West district.

In March 2020, Tripura had only one RT-PCR device, But now, there are 7 RT-PCR devices. Five are at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), one in Dharmanagar (North district) hospital and one in Tripura Medical College Hospital.

He added the state has 10 True-Net devices, 6 CB-Net devices, 42,392 antigen kits and 25,203 RT-PCR kits.

“We had no experience last year in the Corona outbreak. However, the Tripura government has already made preparations using last year’s experience. Whatever the situation, we will deal with it,” Nath added.
