A viral image on the internet is making rounds and claims that the ruling political party in India, Bharatiya Janata Party, has launched a ‘branch’ in Sri Lanka. The image is of a politician named V Muththusami, who is described as a leader of the Sri Lanka Bharatiya Janata Party.
Even though the viral image is real, the newly-formed Sri Lanka Bharatiya Janata Party has no links to India’s BJP, said their leader, V. Muththusami.
“If India is assisting us, we will inform the media about it,” Muththusami told reporters.
On March 6, a Colombo-based Tamil man of Indian origin, Velusamy Muthuswamy, addressed the press conference to announce the formation of a new political outfit called the Ilankai Bharatiya Janatha Katchi (IBJK) or the Sri Lanka BJP.
According to the leader, the objective of the party is to work with the government for the development of standards of education and sports for the Tamils. He said that plans to establish the party had been made six years ago.
But most importantly, Velusamy Muthuswamy has denied any kind of links to India’s Bharatiya Janata Party. But he said that he admires PM Modi and said that his schemes are progressive, and they are achieving great results. The links may not be there, but he has surely got the attention of India’s media’s attention!
