Guwahati: Bhutan’s Wangchu bridge on Damchu-Haa Link Road, which was nearing completion, collapsed on Tuesday night killing at least three people.
The 204-metre-long bridge was under construction by Border Roads Organisation.
Confirming the incident, Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering tweeted, “Day ends with unfortunate news of the Wangchu bridge collapse at Damchu-Haa road today. Saying prayers for the lives lost and hoping we find all missing persons safe and sound. My thoughts are with DANTAK team led by Chief Engineer Brigadier Kabir Kashyap and all rescue workers.”
According to reports, nine people were working at the site when the bridge collapsed. Three bodies have been recovered and six people remain missing.
