Itanagar: Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra called on Union Sport and Youth Affairs minister Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi on Monday during which they discussed matters related to the promotion of sports and games in the state.
During the meeting, the Governor said the youth of Arunachal Pradesh have huge potential in games and sports. He asked the Union Minister to create more infrastructures for sporting events in the state and also suggested sending a ‘Central Sports Promotion Team’ to each district for promoting selected popular games and sports.
The Governor said with more facilities for sports and games activities, the state will be able gear itself up for the National Games and Sports.
He underscored that women sports must receive special attention from the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs. He added that the women must be provided a platform which helps them get exposure.
Mishra further expressed his gratitude to the ministry for declaring the Sange Laden Sports Academy, a Khelo India State level Centre of Excellence and the Golden Jubilee Higher Secondary School, Pasighat and State Sports Academy, Miao as district level Khelo India Centres of Excellence for various disciplines.

The governor also raised the issue of the poor performance standards in the state with the Union Minister.

The governor, who is on an official tour to the national capital, also met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday.
Various issues related to national security and national border situation and the dispositions of the country’ armed forces were discussed during the call on.
Mishra said that the people of Arunachal Pradesh share a bonhomie with the security forces.
The people have cordial relationships with defence forces stationed in the state while the state government ensures basic means of communication, like porter tracks, log and crisscross suspension bridges, the governor said.
The forces, through their Sadbhavana and Samaritan projects have won the heart and mind of the local populace, he said while suggesting the defence minister to take up more such initiatives in Arunachal Pradesh.

The governor further briefed the union minister on the state government’s proposal of making a Memorial of Major Bob Khathing at Tawang.

He requested Singh to provide the government land for making the memorial in the Army’s Tawang Cantonment.
Calling for contribution from the defence ministry, the Governor said the memorial will be of huge historical importance.
Mishra further reiterated his appeal of providing special provision for the youths of Arunachal Pradesh by facilitating more pre-recruitment training by the units of armed forces stationed in the state.

The governor also raised the issues of border roads and bridges under the Border Roads Organization, particularly the strategic Miao-Vijoynagar road.
