Tripura BJP has demanded immediate action against those assailants

A BJP leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jalachandra Karbari Para under the Manikpur police station in Dhalai district on Saturday, said the police.

The local BJP leader identified as Kripa Ranjan Chakma (37) was shot dead around 3 am on Saturday when he was sleeping at home.

“Unidentified assailants shot him at around 3 am on Saturday. We received a call and rushed to the spot to investigate the matter,” an official from Manikpur police station said.

Kripa Ranajan was a BJP worker and the brother of BJP Mandal General Secretary. Upon receiving the information, BJP district committee member Ashis Bhattacharjee rushed to the deceased’s house with local MLA Shambhulal Chakma, BJP Janajati Morcha District President Hangsa Kumar Tripura and others.

“We have registered a case under section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Arms Act, based on which three persons identified as Uttam Kumar Chakma, Brajamohan Chakma and Hemanta Chakma were arrested from the same village,” the police official added.

Reacting to the death of the party worker, BJP state spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee said that the death of Kripa Ranjan Chakma was shocking since he was an active worker in the area.

“We believe a conspiracy was hatched ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election in the state. The party demands immediate action against those assailants who killed the active party worker,” Bhattacharjee said.

The party has also asked the local party functionaries to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident with utmost caution and provide all necessary assistance in the police investigation process.
