Agartala: Barely a month after the All Tripura Government Doctors Association (ATGDA) expressed their anger over the frequent assault of health workers including doctors, another doctor Dr Partha Talapatra was assaulted in Gomati district.
Dr Talapatra, who is posted at the Natun Bazar Rural Hospital, was allegedly assaulted by the relatives of a patient who died after being referred to Gomati district hospital.
Members of the ATGDA Gomati district committee joined in a protest at the Natun Bazar Hospital and demanded immediate action against those involved.
The doctor has lodged a written complaint with the Natun Bazar police station on Wednesday.
A delegation of the ATGDA met with the local police officials demanding the arrest of miscreants immediately and arranging for appropriate punishment.
Earlier, Tamal Sarkar, a doctor in Khowai district hospital, was attacked by a group of locals on December 3. According to Sarkar, he was attending patients at the emergency block when some attendants requested him to examine a patient outside the block, to which he asked them to bring the patient inside. As soon he denied going out and checking the patient, the group of miscreants started assaulting him.
Following the incident, the ATGDA said if health workers do not feel safe in the workplace, they cannot serve patients. Hospitals with big tiles, advanced equipment, medicine, and big speeches cannot improve the health care of the people.
