Imphal: Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla on Tuesday took the salute during the 72nd Republic Day celebration held at the historic Kangla Fort in Imphal amid tight security.
The state-level celebration was attended by chief minister N Biren Singh, speaker Y Khemchand, ministers, chief secretary, MLAs, police officials and state officials, among others.
This year, around 27 contingents participated in the march past. All the major government departments displayed their respective tableau, showcasing the work done by each department for the welfare of the people in the state.
Sh Jugeshore Sharma, MPS, commandant of the 10th Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) was the parade commander while the guard of honour commander was Reena Haobam, MPS, deputy CO of the 7th Manipur Rifles (MR).
During the event, 24 officials and personnel of Manipur Police department was awarded the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service, police medal for meritorious service, Ati-Utkrishit Seva Padak, Utkrishit Seva Padak, Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak for NE region and Union Minister’s Medal for excellence in police training.
E Priyokuamr Singh, MPS, IGP and Subedar M Ibobi Singh of 6th IRB was accorded the President’s police medal award for their distinguished services.
For the police medal for meritorious service, seven personnel namely Subedar Mangsidam Dimartan Singh of 4th IRB, sub-inspector Tuanjahau of CID (SB), Havildar Rongshong Leiyah of 6th IRB, Rifleman Md Shahid Ahamed of 1st IRB, Havildar Sanabam Singh Bishorjit of 1st MR, Havildar AS Mayonkui Zimik of Manipur Police Training Center (MPTC) and Havildar Lenin Meetei of MPTC.
