Agartala: Tripura police have beefed up security arrangements ahead of the 72nd Republic Day celebrations in the state, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Law and Order Subrata Chakraborty said.
In a press statement, the AIG said that on the eve of forthcoming Republic Day, preventive measures are being taken by police for peaceful and smooth observance of the occasion.
“Checking of vehicles in highways and other important roads of the state is going on in total 107 places. Vehicular mobile, foot patrolling etc., are being done by local police from the respective police stations,” Chakraborty said.
He also said that special operations are being launched in the interior areas by police, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and other security forces.
Besides, the Border Security Force (BSF) has been alerted to keep extra vigil in the bordering areas.
The main Republic Day function will be held in Assam Rifles ground where the Tripura governor Ramesh Kumar Bais will address and take the salute on Tuesday.
The Republic Day celebration will also take place across all government, non-government and other institutions across the state.
On January 21, the Tripura police arrested four persons, including an ultra from Raishyabari market and seized Rs 15 lakh in cash from Dhalai district.
The Tripura police had also arrested four members of the banned outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) with weapons, subscription receipts from Arjunthakur Para under Takarjala police station under Sepahijala district on January 12 last.
