Although the present AMC term had ended on December 10, 2020 and election was due in the same year, it could not be held due to the spread of Covid-19, he said.

“As Mizoram registered a significant decline in Covid-19 cases and moreover vaccination drive is being carried out across the state. We have consulted the state government and finally decided to hold the polls,” he said.

He said that the municipal administrator, who was appointed by the state government in December last year will cease to exercise power of the municipal authorities once the executive body is formed.

All the election process is scheduled to be completed by February 22, he added.
