WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature that allows the messaging application to make in-app announcements. So, whenever any update is available, users will be notified within WhatsApp. The firm has specified that this announcement tab will not be used for advertisements.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the announcements made on the app won’t be sent in the form of a chat, but they will appear as an in-app banner. Now, the report mentions that a banner can redirect users to external websites so that they can gain more input on the topic or they can urge the users to take certain action with regard to the update.
Recently, the app also made its first announcement. It talked about the new terms of services incorporated by WhatsApp and the chief aim of the update.
As per a screenshot given by the site, a notification will appear on the screen that reads: “WhatsApp is updating its terms and privacy policies”. There is also the words ‘Tap to review’ written below the title. Upon clicking the banner, one will be able to see what are the updated terms.
Two key updates have come alongside the new terms and conditions. The first involves how WhatsApp processes your data while the second is about how businesses can use Facebook hosted services to store and manage their WhatsApp chats. According to the screengrab, this new update comes into effect from December 8 and the users will have the option to click on the ‘Agree’ tab.
The report mentions that if one does not agree to the terms, they can delete their WhatsApp account by going to the settings tab within the app. In the Settings, users will find the ‘Account’ option. Once they tap on this, users will need to select ‘Delete My Account’ to stop using WhatsApp. The company is expected to announce the updated terms of service in the coming weeks.
This update has been released for Android as version 18.104.22.168 web release and iOS as version 2.20.130.
