Do you want to watch films and series together with your friends but don’t want to step out or gather a crowd at your place? If yes, then this new Amazon feature is meant for you.
Amazon has introduced the ‘Watch Party’ feature, which will enable you to host or participate in a Watch Party with friends with a synchronised playback option.
A single party session can host 100 participants. This feature, which is now available in India, only works on the web (not app or TV). It was first launched in the US and later in other countries such as the UK. If the participants of the online streaming try to open the watch party session on the Prime Video app, they will be redirected to the website.
Each participant in the watch party needs to have a Prime membership. The streaming session will be controlled by the host of the party as they are the ones who can control when to play, pause or skip the video.
Not just this, to make the experience wholesome, there is also a chat tab where the watch party participants can interact with each other, thus allowing friends to talk about the movie while they are watching it.
If you want to use this latest feature of Prime Video, these are the steps which need to be followed:
● Log in to Prime Video on the web browser
● Select the TV show that you would like to stream for a watch party
● Next to the share option, you will find a ‘Watch Party’ option. Click on it
● Enter your name in the designated space. Click on ‘Create Watch Party’
● Copy the link of the watch party and share it with those who you would like to invite
The Amazon Prime subscription in the country costs Rs 999 per year with benefits such as Prime Music and Prime Delivery on Amazon.com. Competitors like Netflix are priced at a much higher rate of web subscription starting at Rs 500 per month.
The watch party feature will allow people to maintain social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic while getting the experience of watching a movie together.
