Agartala: Agartala: Tripura advocate general Arun Kanti Bhowmik, who was undergoing treatment in Kolkata, passed away on Saturday. His death has cast a shadow of deep mourning in Tripura.

He was a renowned lawyer as well as a skilled politician. His political life was very successful, along with his success in his professional duties.

Members of the Tripura cabinet, including Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, MP Pratima Bhoumik and opposition political parties, have expressed their condolences.

Advocate general Arun Kanti Bhowmik was suffering from a serious illness for the last few days. He was airlifted to Kolkata on Friday as his condition deteriorated. However, all the efforts of the doctors failed and he passed away at 5.30 am on Saturday.

As soon as the news of his death reached Tripura, a shadow of deep mourning fell on the political and legal society.

In a tweet, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar said, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Arun Kanti Bhowmik, Advocate General of the State and a very kind person. I ask God to bless his soul. May god give his family the strength to endure grief in this difficult time”, Deb said.

MP Pratima Bhoumik said that the Advocate General had been involved in the legal profession since the 60s.

“He was a good man at heart and could rarely do any harm to anyone. Arun Kanti Bhowmik took over as advocate general of the State in 2018. A devoted soldier of the Bharatiya Janata Party has held various important positions. My condolences to the family,” Bhoumik said.

Tripura deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Law and education minister Ratan Lal Nath has also expressed deep grief over the demise of the advocate general.
