2015 batch IAS toppers Tina Dabi and Athar Aamir Khan who tied the knot in 2018 in Kashmir have now filed for a divorce with mutual consent in a family court in Jaipur, according to reports.
The couple’s wedding made headlines in 2018, as Dabi had topped Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination in 2015, while Khan had secured the second position in the same year.
Their interfaith marriage was hailed by many, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and at the same time, it had caused debates on social media and accusation of ‘Love Jihaad’ had also surfaced.
The news of divorce is now serving as a hotbed for debate and netizens are calling out Hindu girls to not fall prey to ‘love jihaad’.
A critic highlighting Dabi’s status as an IAS officer wrote, “Good morning
Woh IAS thee Isliye Court Room tak pauch payee…
Tum Sab nahi pauch paooge”
Similarly, another netizen said, “She is lucky to get out of this hell so easily because of her position. Had she been less powerful she would have been found in some suitcase. Had predicted this when they got married. Illusion disappeared perhaps.”
Meanwhile, people have also called out the ‘troll army’ for not respecting the couple’s privacy.
Sandip Ghose, a writer and op-ed columnist tweeted, “Don’t get it – why should the divorce of two young educated and independent professionals should be a trending topic in India. Surely “live happily ever after” was not a condition of their appointment in civil services. For God’s sake – respect privacy.”
Another Twitterati wrote, “#tinadabi and #atharkhan got married and getting divorce like thousand others do everyday. Why people still feel it’s #lovejihaad”
