Kohima: All security arrangements are in place for the counting of votes of the by-polls of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), state chief electoral officer (CEO) Abhijit Sinha informed.

Counting for the l4-Southern Angami-l (ST) Assembly Constituency and 60 Pungro-Kiphire (ST) Assembly Constituency is scheduled for Tuesday.

“The path for transportation of EVMs from the Strong rooms to counting halls has been delineated and barricaded, and it would be under CCTV coverage,” said Sinha.

He informed that the Superintendent of Police (SP) of both districts have made detailed security arrangements, and there will be three-tier security at the counting centres.

The first and second tier will be manned by personnel from District Executive Force (DEF), Nagaland Police (NAP), Indian Reserve Battalion (IR), and the third and last tier, close to the counting hall, will be manned by personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

The counting of votes for 14-Southern Angami -l (ST) Assembly Constituency will be done by the SDO (C) Jakhama & Returning Officer at Kohima, and the ADC Kiphire & Returning Officer will conduct the counting for 60-Pungro-Kiphire (ST) Assembly Constituency at Kiphire.

There will be one counting centre each in Kohima and Kiphire, both in the respective Deputy Commissioner Complex. In Kohima, there will be one hall for counting of votes, while there will be two counting halls in Kiphire.

Necessary protocols for preventing the spread of COVID-19 will be followed at the counting centres, Sinha assured. Anyone entering the counting centre will be thermally screened, and hand sanitisers will be provided at the entrances. The counting centres will be disinfected before, during and after the counting.

He added that CUs/VVPATs cases will also be sanitised before placing over the counting tables. The counting will begin at 8 am, and the returning officers of both the Assembly Constituencies will be regularly uploading the round-wise data and counting trends which will be available for viewing on the ECI portal at
