A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, Sudip Sarkar from Tripura, was martyred while trying to foil an infiltration attempt in the Machil sector in Kupwara region of Jammu & Kashmir.
“In the wee hours of 8 Nov’20, @BSF_Kashmir foiled an infiltration attempt in the Machil Sec. 01 terrorist killed and remaining of the group pushed back. Ct Sudip Sarkar continued fighting in spite been hit and ultimately made the supreme sacrifice”, said the Border Security Force.
Speaking with EastMojo, Dipankar Sarkar, elder brother of the slain jawan said that his mother on Sunday received a call from BSF officials who informed her about the supreme sacrifice of her son.
“He was recently posted in Srinagar from Punjab. We have been told that he killed a militant even after he was hit by the militants until he made supreme sacrifice,” Dipankar said.
Dipankar, who is attached with Tripura State Rifles (TSR) para-military said that both the brothers had always wanted to serve the nation and if required make the highest sacrifice.
“The mortal remains would be brought to Agartala by the BSF tomorrow afternoon. The chief minister’s office has also assured us full support from their end,” Dipankar added.
Sudip was survived by his wife and two daughters who are presently living in West Bengal.
Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb took to Twitter and wrote, “After midnight yesterday, Captain Sudip Sarkar, a brave soldier of our state, was injured while trying to stop the infiltration of extremists in the fish section of Kashmir and made the highest sacrifice in the ensuing period.
I wish the soul of this heroic child of Mother India all the best and extend my condolences to his bereaved family. Om Shanti,” he said.
