India Space Research Centre’s (ISRO) PSLV-C49 successfully launched its EOS-01 as the primary satellite along with nine international customer satellites from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota. The Mission Director had authorised the launch of PSLVC49 at 15:12 pm IST. ISRO has been updating about every single detail of the launch in their official twitter account.

PM Narendra Modi also took to Twitter to congratulate the ISRO team for their successful launch. “I congratulate @ISRO and India’s space industry for the successful launch of PSLV-C49/EOS-01 Mission today. In the time of COVID-19, our scientists overcame many constraints to meet the deadline”, he tweeted.
This is ISRO’s first mission since the launch of RISAT-2BR1, another earth observation satellite similar to EOS-01, on December 11 last year. EOS-01 is another Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT) that will work together with RISAT-2B and RISAT-2BR1 launched last year.
EOS-01 was initially named RISAT-2BR2. EOS-01 is an earth observation satellite intended for applications in agriculture, forestry and disaster management support. The nine international customer satellites have been launched under a commercial agreement with the newly formed entity New Space India Limited (NSIL), Department of Space.
All the earth observation satellites would be called the EOS-series. Land and forest mapping and monitoring, mapping of resources like water or minerals or fishes, weather and climate observations, soil assessment, geospatial contour mapping are all done through earth-observation satellites.
ISRO’s launch schedule was entirely overturned by the coronavirus epidemic. ISRO had planned for more than 20 satellite launches in the fiscal year 2020-21, including high profile missions like Aditya L1, the first exploratory mission to Sun, and unmanned Gaganyaan, the precursor to India’s first manned space flight.
The PSLV-C49 is a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite that will be able to capture images even if there are clouds or even at night. It is unaffected by any earthly phenomena that could prevent it from imaging something on ground.
Pawan Kumar Chandana, CEO and Chief Technology Officer of Skyroot Aerospace, stated that the EOS-01 increases the coverage and imaging cadence of Synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) satellite series (RISAT-2B, RISAT-2BR1) with 24×7 all-weather imaging (unlike optical imaging which is affected by cloud cover and day/night illumination).
