Another journalist lost the battle against COVID-19, this time in Odisha. Prabir Kumar Pradhan, a senior journalist in vernacular language breathed his last on Thursday morning, as reported by Oomcom News.
Pradhan was a senior crime reporter with the News18 Odia news channel, passed away at around 8 am in morning on Wednesday at a private hospital in Bhubaneshwar.
He is survived by his wife and daughter. As per reports, Pathak’s father had also succumbed to the deadly virus a few days earlier.
Several prominent journalists engaged with various media outlets have laid down their lives to the coronavirus. Reports suggest that over a thousand journalists have been infected in their line-of-duty in India.
Senior politician from the state, Baiyant Jay Panda have also mourned the death of Pradhan and have offered condolences to his family.
Assam has witnessed two journalists falling prey to COVID-19 as reported till September. One of them is Dhaneshwar Rabha, a thirty-five-year-old journalist based in Udalguri who died at Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) on September 6.
The very next day, on September 7, senior journalist Ashim Dutta passed away at the Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH). Dutta, aged 65, worked for a Bengali daily in Barak valley.
