The Mumbai Police on Wednesday morning arrested Republic TV’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami in alleged connection with an old abetment to suicide case.
It is alleged that Goswami had abetted the suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer. According to officials of Mumbai Police, an architect and his mother committed suicide in Alibaug over alleged non-payment of dues by the channel Republic TV in 2018.

The deceased architect, Anvay Naik, who was the managing director of Concorde Designs Private Limited, in his suicide note accused Goswami and two others – Feroz Shaikh and Niteish Sarda of having pending dues worth Rs 5.40 crore.
The FIR in the case says that Arnab Goswami of ARG Outlier, owner of Republic TV, had allegedly pending dues of Rs 83 lakh for the Bombay Dyeing Studio Project, and Feroz Shaikh had pending dues worth Rs 4 Crore for a project in Andheri.
Similarly, Niteish Sarda of Smart Work had allegedly pending dues of Rs 55 lakh for his projects at Magarputta and Baner in Pune.

Arnab Goswami accused the Mumbai Police of physically assaulting him during his arrest while his Republic TV reported that around 10 policemen entered Goswami’s house and “pushed and heckled Arnab demanding he come out”.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said it “reminds us of the Emergency” condemning the move.
