Shillong: Meghalaya Government on Wednesday decided to cancel it’s Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with MS Sew Energy Ltd for implementation of the 65 Megawatt Rangmaw Hydel Power Project.
Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the cabinet decision was taken following a proposal by the power Department to cancel the agreement.
“The MoA with the government of Meghalaya was signed in 2010, however, the company said that the project was not feasable hence we cancelled it,” informed Tynsong.
The cabinet also passed a bill for setting of St Xavier’s University in the state. The proposal will now be placed before the Assembly.
“The proposal has been strongly recommended by the Meghalaya Private University Regulatory Board,” informed Tynsong.
A proposal to amendment the Meghalaya Farmers Commission Bill 2020 was also approved.
“The amendment was relating to the age limit of the chairman of the Commission. The government incorporated the proposal to limit chairman’s age at 65 years. The proposal was approved by the Cabinet,” said Tynsong.
The cabinet also extended the term of the secretary of the Meghalaya state consumers disputes redressal Commission by a year.
To ease the challenges faced by people in procuring non-judicial stamps, the government approved the introduction of EStamps in the state.
