Kanta Prasad, owner of the popular food stall ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’, has filed a complaint against Youtuber and Instagram influencer Gaurav Wasan for alleged misappropriation of funds, police confirmed on Sunday.
Kanta Prasad, had earlier shot to limelight after a video of him tearfully sharing his desperation since the lockdown went viral across social media platforms recently.
Kanta Prasad’s despair came to focus when the social media influencer Wasan who runs a YouTube channel called Swad Official, shared the video about the couple, where the elderly couple narrated their plight.
Now, in his police complaint, Kanta Prasad said that Gaurav Wasan shot the video and posted it on social media and urged the public to donate money for Prasad.
Prasad alleges that Wasan “intentionally and deliberately shared only his and his family/friends’ bank details and mobile numbers with the donors and collected a huge amount of donation through different modes of payments i.e bank account/wallets without providing any information to the complainant”.
The food joint owner also accused Gaurav Wasan of not providing details of the financial transactions to him.
Speaking to the media, Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Delhi South), said, ‘We received the complaint yesterday at the Malviya Nagar Police Station and the matter is being probed. No FIR has been registered yet in the case.’
After the video went viral, celebrities and netizens showed immense support for Prasad and his wife, and help poured in for the couple. Within hours #Babakadhaba went trending on Twitter and other social media platforms with the food joint getting flooded with more customers than it had ever seen in the 30 years of its business.
However the social media influencer Wasan has refuted to all the allegations against him and produced bank statements to prove the transactions made to the bank account of Kanta Prasad.
