Agartala: Tripura has ranked fifth as best governed state among the list of 11 small states in the Public Affairs Index (PAI) 2020 report.
Three states from the northeastern region are among the top five with Meghalaya ranking second, Sikkim at fourth and Tripura in fifth position.
The Public Affairs Center published a report covering all the states in the country. The research report on the sustainable development goals in the context of the country has highlighted the position of all the states.
Goa has topped the index among the smaller states, while Meghalaya ranked second and Himachal Pradesh ranked third among the list of 11 states that the Public Affairs Center’s report has published.
Among the northeastern states, Meghalaya ranked second, Sikkim is in fourth place, Tripura in fifth place, Arunachal Pradesh in sixth place, Mizoram in seventh place, Nagaland in eighth place and Manipur in eleventh place.
According to the report, Sikkim scored 0.602 points, Tripura 0.145 points, Arunachal Pradesh 0.048 points, Mizoram-0.055 points, Nagaland-0.0116 points and Manipur-0.363 points. Meanwhile, Assam ranked 13th in the index among 16 larger states with -0.0671 points.
Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma took to Twitter and informed, “Happy to share that #Meghalaya has been ranked the 2nd Best Governed State in #India in the Small States Category based on the Public Affairs Index 2020 of @pacindia, an annual ranking of the states of India on governance performance”.
The Public Affairs Index (PAI 2020) is a scientifically rigorous, data-based framework that measures the quality of governance at the subnational level and ranks the states and Union Territories (UTs) of India on a Composite Index (CI). States are classified into two categories- large and small- using population as the criteria.
