The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI)’s Senior National Selection Committee announced the Indian squads on Monday for the tour of Australia later in the month.

The schedule for the tour comprising of four Tests(one pink ball Test), three One-day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals was announced last week.

The Indian team will be travelling to Australia in a bio-secure bubble straight from the IPL.

India’s limited overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who is currently with the Mumbai Indians is battling with a hamstring injury, and has been left out of all the three squads, with BCCI saying that the medical team will monitor his progress. Another notable misses from the squad are the names of veteran India pacers Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who were ruled out of the ongoing IPL season from their respective franchises due to injuries have been left out of the Indian squad.

Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul who is having a dream in the ongoing IPL, currently being the highest run-scorer in the season, has been handed the vice-captaincy for the first-time in his international career. Rahul has scored 595 runs in 12 matches in the current season of the IPL, with an average of 59.50 and a strike rate of 132.22.

Indian fast bowling sensation Navdeep Saini has been picked for the Tests for his impressive performance in the IPL along with his Royal Challengers Bangalore team mate Mohammed Shiraj.

The pick of the season has been the selection of Kolkata Knight Riders’ mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who on a back of a brilliant five-wicket haul against the Delhi Capitals has earned his maiden call-up to the Indian squad, with a place in the T20 squad, along with Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar who has made a comeback in the T20 side.

The BCCI has also announced that four additional fast bowlers – Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kartik Tyagi, Ishan Porel and T Natarajan will be travelling with the Indian contingent as net bowlers.
