Aizawl: At least 58 people, including 15 students from two private schools in Aizawl, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking Mizoram’s Covid-19 tally to 2,447, an official said.
44 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 5 from Hnahthial district, 5 from Kolasib district and 2 cases each from Serchhip and Khawzawl districts, the official said.
Of the 58 new patients comprising 40 males and 8 females, 36 patients have no travel history and were diagnosed with Covid-19 during contact tracing while the remaining 22 patients have returned from other states, he said.
Among the 58 patients, 9 of them have developed symptoms of Covid-19 and the rest 49 were asymptomatic.
15 students from two private schools, 5 employees of a department and 5 employees of a company, who came from other states, were among the newly infected people, the official said.
The total number of active cases stands at 249 while 2,198 people have already recovered from the virus, he said.
Mizoram has not reported any fatality due to Covid-19 till date.
Altogether, 1,04,073 samples have been tested, including 1,121 samples on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the state school education department has closed all educational institutions following the rise in local transmission cases.
Earlier on October 16, regular classes were opened for classes-10 and 12 students, who are appearing board examinations next year.
The state government also announced ‘Covid-19 No Tolerance Fortnight” from 26 October to November 9, during which unlock guidelines, ordinances and Covid-19 protocols will be strictly observed.
