Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam’s health, finance, and education minister announced on Friday that the COVID-19 vaccine would be distributed for free in the state. He said, “Vaccine will be obviously free in Assam. The Government of India has already decided to distribute the vaccine free of cost.”
The minister was in Nagaon today for the inaugural function of the 125th-anniversary celebrations of Nagaon Natya Samiti. He had a busy day inaugurating the Bhuyan Patty Bridge over Kalang River, and laying down the foundation stone of drain construction from Dhing Gate Flyover to Sonai River. It was there in a speech that the minister stated about the free-of-cost COVID-19 vaccines.
As of now, Assam has recorded 2,03,282 coronavirus positive cases and just on Thursday, another 508 cases were detected. Additionally, the COVID-19 deaths also went up to 896 as seven more people succumbed to the virus yesterday. According to the state health ministry, the current fatality rate stands at 0.44%
Assam now has 24,724 active cases and 1,77,659 recovery cases. Additionally, over 44.72 lakh sample tests for COVID-19 have so far been conducted in the state.
On another note, the Centre has set aside approximately $7 billion which is close to Rs 51,000 crore to vaccinate India’s 1.3 billion people against the virus. The Narendra Modi led government estimates and all-in cost of about Rs 450- 550 per person in the nation.
