Silchar: Mizoram has decided to pull its forces from Assam’s territory following the intervention of Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs (North East incharge) Satyendra Kumar Garg on Wednesday.

The Union government, Assam Home Secretary Gyanendra Dev Tripathi and Mizoram Home Secretary, Pi Lalbiaksangi had fruitful discussions and resolved to settle the matter amicably across the negotiation table, after a joint meeting at Circuit House in Silchar.

Tripathi said, “Mizoram had acceded to our request and decided to withdraw its forces from Assam’s territory.”

He added that both the sides held meetings to restore peace and normalcy in the disturbed areas and that efforts are on to start movement of trucks carrying essential commodities stranded on Assam side of the border to Mizoram.

Prior to this, Home Secretary level talks were held at Lailapur close to the inter state border to bring back peace and tranquility and for plying of stranded trucks and vehicles on Assam side of the border following the flare up on Saturday night.
