Kohima: Ahead of the bye-election to the 14 Southern Angami-I AC, deputy commissioner of Kohima and district election officer Mohammed Ali Shihab warned that bribing voters could lead to imprisonment.
Shihab informed the general public that any offer of cash, liquor, gift items or free food to the electors during election process is bribe. Persons involved in offering or accepting such bribes are liable for punishment with imprisonment up to one year and a fine.
Flying Squads and Surveillance Teams have been formed to keep watch over such activities and to check movement of items meant for inducement of electors during election process.
The DC appealed that any individual can inform such incidents of bribe to the Control Room No 0370- 2290226 or toll free District Contact Centre 0370-2291285.

The office of the Deputy Commissioner Kohima, through an order informed that in order to ensure all election related activities are in compliance of the various guidelines on COVID-19 issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the State Government, a committee has been constituted.
The details of the committee members are: ADC HQ Kohima, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa as Convenor; SDO(C) Jakhama & RO 14th Southern Angami-I A/C, Ruopfükuotuo Noudi as member; EAC Kohima & ARO of 14 Southern Angami-I A/C, Abeinuo Jasmine Ashao as member Secretary and other members included Dy. SP (Reserve), Soriso Quinker; AEO Kohima, Toshimeren Aier; District Health Officer for Bye- Election, Dr. Rubert Peseyie; Sub-Divisional Health Officer for Bye-Election, Ethungbemo Ezung and DPRO Kohima, Ruopfülenuo H. Mepfhüo.

The order also said that the committee will be responsible to supervise and monitor all COVID-19 related activities and work out modalities for implementation of the same during the entire election period.

A separate press release also informed that Khuochiezie, (Local Ground) Kohima is requisitioned for parking and deployment of vehicles engaged for the conduct of Bye-Election to the 14 Southern Angami I Assembly Constituency 2020 from October 26 till November 10.
In this connection, no activities and applications for allotment of the Local Ground Kohima will be entertained during this period.
