In wake of the global coronavirus pandemic, puja pandals seem to have found creative ways to represent the current times. So, it is only appropriate that ‘coronavirus-themed’ pandals will be the flavour of 2020’s pujo season.

Already doing the rounds on social media are pictures of an idol of Goddess Durga in a doctor’s attire, killing the coronavirus-shaped Mahisasur, ‘Coronasaur’.

Originally shared by Facebook user Nittya Paul, the images have now gone viral, shared and liked by thousands. The photos also grabbed the attention of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who took to Twitter to praise the innovative idea.

“Brilliantly appropriate #covid19-themed Durga Puja creativity from Kolkata, with the goddess slaying the virus! Salutations to the unknown designer & sculptor #DurgaPuja2020,” Tharoor tweeted.

The idol is seen wearing lab coat over a saree, has a stethoscope around its neck, and holds a big syringe in place of the traditional trident. The four children of the goddess have also been reimagined, with Ganesh being a police officer, Lakshmi as a nurse, Saraswati as a teacher and Kartik a cleaner.

This year’s Durga Puja celebrations start from October 22 to last until October 26.
