Kings XI Punjab clinched their third consecutive victory in the season as they beat table toppers Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
It was a night for the left handers as Shikhar Dhawan’s sheer brilliance of an unbeaten century in the first innings went in vain, as it was another two left handers Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran that powered the Kings XI to a great victory.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the Delhi Capitals got off to a pretty good start. Even though they lost Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer early, an in-form Shikhar Dhawan led from the front taking Delhi to a comfortable position at the halfway mark with 83/2 on the board.
Shikhar Dhawan continued his merry run as he anchored the Delhi innings, bringing up his second consecutive century in the season. Shikhar Dhawan seemed to be playing on a completely different surface as he scored an unbeaten 106 of just 61 deliveries, while the whole rest of Delhi managed just 58 runs including 4 extras in 59 deliveries, as they eventually posted 164/5 at the end of their 20 overs.

Having had sufficient wickets in hand, it was a bit of an anti-climax for the Delhi Capitals as they managed just 81 runs in the back 10 overs, courtesy some great bowling from the Kings.
Mohammed Shami was once again the stand out bowler for the Kings XI, as he picked up two important wickets giving away just 28 runs in his four overs.
Chasing a competitive total, the Kings XI had a pretty mixed bag start, as they scored 101 runs in their first 10 overs, even though they lost three wickets up front, courtesy the two Carribean south paw.
Chris Gayle departed after scoring a quick 13-ball-29, being particularly severe on Tushar Pandey, and then Nicholas Pooran, who looked in tremendous touch right from the first ball he played.
Nicholas Pooran played a blistering knock of 53 off just 28 deliveries, before he was dismissed trying to leave a quick bouncer off Rabada that kissed his gloves and went straight into Rishabh Pant’s hands.
Pooran put Punjab in a real good position as he left Punjab needing just 40 runs off 45 deliveries at the time of his dismissal.
An out of form Glenn Maxwell did well to take Punjab closer to the target with a 24-ball-32, but could not remain at the crease till the end, as he departed with Punjab needing 18 runs off 25 deliveries.
And then Jimmy Neesham finally finished off the game with a six taking Punjab to a 5-wicket victory with an over to spare, as they take a leap up to the fifth position in the points table.
