Meghalaya: PNB lead bank for newly-formed Eastern West Khasi Hills district

Imphal: The Punjab National Bank (PNB) and its treasury branch in Manipur’s Tamenglong district have been temporarily closed down from Monday onwards following several employees and security guards were tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 48 hours.

So far, a total of 30 cases were reported from the bank two branches-seven staff and 23 security guards, said district CMO Dr Chambo Gonmei, while adding, more testing are undergoing.

As per the directive ordered issued by district magistrate Armstrong Pamei, both branches of PNB (main and treasury branch) in the district will remain close until the sanitisation work which is being undertaken is completed.

Moreover, the minimum staff has to complete their quarantine period from COVID-19 Care Center to start functioning the bank, it said.

As per reports, bank employees and security personnel were reportedly getting infected by the virus as the numbers of footfalls in the branches are high.

In view of the contact tracing, Pamei also appealed all those who had visited the branches in the last 72 hours to get isolate themselves and testing done as a precautionary step to stop further spread of the virus.

So far, Tamenglong has registered a total number of COVID-19 positive cases to 636 with 14 fresh cases reported on Sunday, in which 504 have recovered and 129 remained as active cases.

According to the district chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Chambo Gonmei, the virus has already claimed at least three lives in the district.

The northeastern state of Manipur continued reeling under the unprecedented cases of coronavirus with local transmission cases on the rise.

On Sunday, the state reported at least 322 fresh cases of COVID-19, in which 309 persons do not have significant travel history and 13 are security personnel.

Also, with five more patients succumbed due to the virus, the deaths toll has climbed to 116.

Of the total 15,463 confirmed cases for coronavirus, as many as 11,741 persons have recovered and 3,606 more infected persons are undergoing treatment at various dedicated hospitals and COVID-19 care centers.
