Guwahati: Tensions have increased along the Assam-Mizoram border area, as miscreants torched houses on Saturday night, injuring people on both side. The incident reportedly took place in Lailapur in Cachar district.
There is no official statement on the incident or on any casualty.
This comes less than a week after Assam and Mizoram officials held talks and decided to setup police outposts along the disputed border area to avert future standoff.
Also on Saturday, Mizoram’s Mamit district administration imposed section 144 along Tripura-Mizoram village area, the Tripura government has sent a letter strongly responding to the order and claimed Phuldungsei as an integral part of Tripura.
Phuldungsei village situated at Kanchapur Sub-division under North Tripura district shares state boundary with Tripura and Mizoram.
Meanwhile in Assam, the decades old border dispute between Mizoram and Assam resurfaced on October 9 when officials of Karimganj district, forest department and Assam police allegedly set fire on a farm house owned by John Zolawma of Thinghlun village in Mamit district.

Mizoram shares 164.6km inter-state border with Assam. Several dialogues have been held since 1995 to resolve the long standing border dispute, but it has yielded little result.
