Deciding to bat first after winning the toss, the Chennai Super Kings lost their new found opener Sam Curran to Tushar Pandey in the very first over, even before the scoreboard got ticking for CSK.

Following Sam’s dismissal, Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson took control of the CSK innings as they added 87 runs for the second wicket, before Watson was dismissed for 36, as he got clean bowled by Anrich Nortje in the 12th over.

Faf du Plessis looked good for his 47-ball-58 untill he was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada in the 15th over.

Ambati Rayudu played a brisk 25-ball-45 not-out along with Ravindra Jadeja who played a breathtaking cameo towards the end as he scored an unbeaten 33 runs off just 13 deliveries gave Chennai Super Kings the exact kind of finish they would have wanted.

Rayudu and Jadeja added 50 runs in the last 21 deliveries, as they took CSK to 179/4 at the end of their 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals coming out to chase a competitive total, got off to a horrible start as they lost two early wickets in the form of Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane inside the powerplay. Deepak Chahar bowled brilliantly at the top as he picked up two important wickets giving away just 18 runs in his four overs as he got some great movements off the pitch early on with the new ball.

Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan pulled things back for the Capitals, before Iyer was dismissed for 23 in the 12th over. Shikhar Dhawan held his ground firm on one end as he brought up his maiden IPL century, but he kept losing partners at the other end at regular intervals.

Needing 17 runs off the last over, it was quite a surprising decision from MS Dhoni to give the ball to Ravindra Jadeja with two left handers in the crease, as Axar Patel smashed 21 runs in just five deliveries in the last over, eventually taking Delhi to a victory by five wickets and move to the top of the points table.

Speaking about not bowling CSK’s trusted death over bowler Dwayne Bravo, MS Dhoni in the post match interview said that Bravo was not fully fit and that he was out of the ground.
