Tripura: TSF demands re-exam for students unable to appear due to ruling ally called bandh

Agartala: The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), an umbrella organization of North East Students Organization (NESO) on Friday wrote to the chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and education minister Ratan Lal Nath demanding re-schedule of ‘Bochor Bachao’ (save year) exam for those students who failed to appear due to 24-hour strike called by the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) on Thursday.

Sunil Debbarma, general secretary of TSF said that many students could not appear for the examination on Thursday due to the strike. He said it will be devastating if Bochor Bachao (save year) turns into Bochor Noshto or waste year.

The IPFT party had called the ‘bandh’ placing a five-point charter of demands that included separate statehood, implementation of the report of high power modality committee, empowerment of district council under 125th amendment, inclusion of Kokborok under 8th schedule with roman scripts and filling up vacant posts for scheduled tribes.

“Many students from the ADC area could not appear for their examination (Math) due to the strike on Thursday. It was the responsibility for the TBSE to rethink or re-schedule the examination because there was a bandh called by present government alliance partner IPFT part”, Debbarma said.

He also said that students could not appear for exams in Bishalgarh, Khumulwng and other areas, where the strike was in force.

He also said that the ‘Bochor Bachao’ or ‘save the year’ scheme was announced earlier this year. Under the new system, in case a student fails in two subjects, but the aggregate is over 150 marks, he would be given another chance to re-test within 75 days of results after proper coaching from the schools.

A total of 6,013 students from Class X and 3,301 students from Class XII enrolled for the ‘Bochor Bachao’ examination which began from October 12 and would continue till October 22 next.
