Deciding to bat first after winning the toss, the Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a horrific start as the Mumbai Indians bowlers ripped through their top-order and reduced the Knight Riders to 61/ 5 around the halfway stage. The Knight Riders were left in a serious spot of bother, but it was an unbeaten 87-run-partnership between Pat Cummins and KKR’s new skipper Eoin Morgan that helped the Knight Riders reach a respectable total of 148/5 at the end of their 20 overs.

Pat Cummins, enroute his unbeaten 53 off 36, scored his maiden IPL half-century. He was very well supported by captain Morgan with a 29-ball-39, as they made sure KKR got past the 140-run mark, which seemed quite unlikely for them during the halfway mark.

Coming out to chase a modest total, the Mumbai Indians got off to a flyer with their openers Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma taking apart the KKR bowling, as they raced away to 90/0 in the 10 over mark, but Rohit Sharma was dismissed soon after for 35 by Shivam Mavi in the very first over he bowled.

But Quinton de Kock made sure that Mumbai Indians never get back in the run chase with his fine 78 not-out off 44 as the Mumbai Indians eventually just cruised through and reached the target with ease with eight wickets in hand. Hardik Pandya played a great cameo of 21 off 11 towards the end and helped Mumbai finish off in style.

Mumbai Indians now sit at the top of the points table with six wins from eight matches.
