Richa Chadha’s lawsuit against actor Payal Ghosh who had made defamatory statements against Chadha in public has now been disposed of after Ghosh agreed to apologise to her. She has tendered an unconditional apology to Chadha in front of the Bombay High Court in the form of an undertaking on Wednesday.
The issue can be boiled down to the fact that Ghosh, in her accusations of sexual assault against Anurag Kashyap (filmmaker) had mentioned the names of three actors—Huma Qureshi, Mahie Gill, and Richa Chadha, all while alleging that Kashyap had said that the actors would offer him sexual favours. According to her, Kashyap said that they were “just a call away.”
Following this Chadha had filed a defamation suit in the HC against Ghosh and others in connection with the alleged sexual assault allegations against the filmmaker. This includes one Kamaal R Khan and a news channel ABN Telugu as well, who according to the petition had tried to malign her reputation.
The defamation suit of Rs 1.1 crore was filed by Chadha and in her plea stated that the complainant – here Ghosh – was unnecessarily trying to “drag her name in the case.” She also added that Ghosh’s claims were “false, frivolous and vexatious.”
On Wednesday, during the hearing Richs’s lawyer stated that ABN Telugu should withdraw all their reports against Chadha which were based on Ghosh’s remarks. Meanwhile, the lawyer of Kamaal R Khan also told HC that he will not make any public comments against Chadha based on defamatory remarks. He also added that Khan will make a public statement to that effect.
Elated Chadha shared the news on Twitter and wrote, “Done”
Ghosh, not to be put aside also took to Twitter and claimed that Chadha and her lawyer have accepted “some conditions” which were demanded by her.
Even Taapsee Pannu took to Twitter to congratulate Chadha on her courageous fight.
