The Chennai Super Kings displayed a clinical all-round effort with the bat at first and then with the ball, as they registered an important win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 20 runs, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Deciding to bat first after winning the toss the Chennai Super Kings had a decent first half as they reached 69/2 at the 10 over mark, after Sam Curran, promoted up the order, gave them a lightning start with a 21-ball-31.
CSK’s in-form opener Faf du Plessis got out without troubling the scorer. Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu then steadied the ship for CSK.
CSK had a great second half scoring 98 runs in the back 10 overs of their innings as they managed a competitive total of 167/6 at the end of their 20 overs. Watson(42 off 38) and Rayudu(41 off 34) added 81 runs for the third wicket before they were dismissed in two back-to-back overs.
MS Dhoni(21 off 13) and Ravindra Jadeja(25* off 10) chipped in with some valuable and brisk cameos, as they took CSK to a respectable first innings total.

Coming out to chase a pretty competitive total, the Sunrisers Hyderabad did not get off to the greatest of starts, as they lost David Warner and Manish Pandey in quick succession early on in the innings. Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow just managed to hold the SRH innings together, but as Jonny Bairstow was looking good, he was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja just after the strategic time out, reducing SRH to 60/3 at the 10 over mark.
It was a fighting innings from Kane Williamson as he scored a fine 39-ball-57 which gave the SRH some hope in the run chase, but once Williamson got out in the 18th over, it was pretty much all over for the SRH , with no other SRH batsmen showing promise in the night.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad eventually fell short of the CSK target by 20 runs, thus handing CSK with two important points in the tournament.
