Manipur has registered a total of 93 COVID-19 related deaths so far

Imphal: One more doctor who contracted COVID-19 while performing his duty succumbed to the virus in Manipur. He is the second healthcare worker to die of the COVID-19 in the state.

According to sources, a 47-year-old Dr Nasir Ahamed from Thoubal district expired at Shija Hospital in Imphal on Monday evening.

Dr Nasir, who worked as a Manipur Health Service (MHS) medical officer (MO) at Jiribam district, died of COVID-19 and other health complications. He was suffering from Type 2 Diabetic Mellitus (T2DM), said sources.

The deadly virus has claimed the life of a 65-year-old Dr Wahengbam Imo Singh, a renowned gynaecologist (IVF specialist) of Manipur while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Delhi with a condition of severe ARDS (Acute respiratory distress syndrome).

So far, the pandemic has claimed at least 93 lives. There are 13,556 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state.

The cumulative number of recovered and active cases is 10,707 and 2,756 respectively.
