In a shocking incident in the national capital, an 18-year-old student was beaten to death in Delhi over his alleged relationship with a girl.Police have arrested the girl’s brother Md Raj, Manwar Hussain, and three minors.
According to the DCP North West, the victim- Rahul Kumar- was friends with the girl from Jahangirpuri, however, her family objected to which resulted in her relatives beating the 18-year-old resulting in his death. The incident happened on Wednesday in North-West Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar.
The young victim Kumar was a second-year BA student and also used to give tuition classes. CCTV footage from the ill-fated night before the incident took place reportedly showed Kumar with the girl in Nanda Road. It is also alleged that Rahul called the girl there on the pretext of tuition classes.
The man’s uncle, Dharampal- in a report by leading news daily stated that he had rushed to the place to see four to five people kicking and punching his nephew. The uncle intervened and allegedly the girl’s younger brother said that the reason they were beating Kumar was that he had refused to stop seeing his sister. According to the report, Dharampal said that they left after threatening them both.
The 18-year-old succumbed to his injuries in the hospital the next morning. Although no visible wounds were seen in the body of the deceased, post mortem report suggested that it was the rupturing of his spleen that led to his death.
A senior police official Vijayanta Arya while in another report by The Quint stated that investigations have revealed that the family of the girl was against the boy befriending her. Her brothers and even other family members trashed Kumar which led to his death the next day. Investigations also allege that the victim and the girl belonged to different communities, which might have been the driving force behind the incident.
A case was registered under Section 302 (murder) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC, according to The Quint.
On Saturday, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia met the family members of the victims.
