Following reports of Meghalaya minister Kyrmen Shylla’s brother being involved in illegal coal transport, Shylla stepped up to clarify his stand on Friday.
He says, “If my brother is involved, he should be punished. I won’t spare anybody because I’m here to serve the public.” He added, “Not only my brother, if it’s my family or me, my father, nobody should be spared,” said Shylla.
When asked if illegal coal transportation is taking place and what was his opinion, Shylla said that be it mining or transportation we don’t encourage it.

“We from the government’s end are very much against it. And if illegal coal mining or transportation is taking place, then they should be punished. The government and also the public wants to see the NGT ban being lifted and after that have our right to work it as they’ve been doing from time to time but not breaking the law,” said Shylla.
He further urged the citizens to co-operate and not to violate the NGT ban.
He said that one should wait for the time where a smooth functioning of the system to allow legal coal mining or transportation. Shylla said, “If they feel my name is involved or I’m responsible then they should file an FIR against me so that I be punished. But one should not drag my party in it since the party has nothing to do with illegal coal transportation.”
He added that if the people complaining against the party of involvement, they should provide proof.
