Imphal: A total of 190 persons, including state director general of police (DGP), were tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, pushing the cumulative number of COVID-19 in Manipur to 12,679.

As per sources, DGP LM Khaute has been working from home for a while as precautionary measures as some of his staff tested for the contagion virus. After his sample got confirmed for the virus at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital in Imphal, Khaute has gone under home isolation at his official residence.

As per the protocol accepted by the ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) on home isolation for positive persons, Manipur has already adopted the facility, in which around 600 persons tested positive with COVID-19 have opted for home isolation treatment.

Meanwhile, in the latest statement issued by additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, the death toll related to COVID-19 has climbed up to 83 with three more patients succumbed to the disease.

Three male patients, aged 85, 70 and 65 years, from Thoubal, Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts were expired at RIMS, JNIMS and Shija hospitals due to COVID-19 virus, it said.

Moreover, the latest 190 fresh cases are reported from the general population (180) and security personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (10).

On the other hand, a total of 115 more infected COVID-19 patients were discharged after they were declared cured of the infectious disease in the state. With this, the overall recovered cases are now reached to 9,719 and another 2,877 patients remained as active cases.
