Kohima: Acting on a tip-off, Assam police seized 2-kg of heroin at Dillai, in Karbi Anglong district of state from a Guwahati-bound truck coming from Manipur via Nagaland on Friday.
Sources in Assam police informed that a 12-wheeler truck with the registration number AS 01 LC 3613 was signaled to stop at a special check point which was set up at Dillai by Assam police. Upon thorough search, three plastic packets containing 1 kg heroin and 1 kg brown sugar were recovered inside the driver’s cabin at around 8 am on Friday.
A case has been registered under the narcotic drug and psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act at the Dillai police station.
Two persons, identified as Nur Islam (41), son of Najir Ali and a resident of Khetri Gaon, and Abdul Aziz (22), son of Selim Uddin of Krishnai Gaon have been apprehended. The drugs were reportedly seized and sealed on the spot under the physical supervision of the sub divisional police officer (SDPO), Bokajan, officer-in-charge (OC) Dillai police station.
Assam police sources also mentioned that the market value of the recovered items is estimated to be around Rs 9-10 crore (Rs 7 crore for 1 kg heroin and Rs 2 crore for 1 kg brown sugar).
“This Myanmar to Moreh and Dimapur to Assam route handles 1300 crores drugs and under the Mission Against Drugs of DGP Assam BJ Mahanta, IPS, we are cracking down this narco-terrorism that is fueled by drugs,” said Satyaraj Hazarika, deputy inspector general (DIG) (Central Range), Diphu.
Earlier on October 3 a bus with the registration number NL03 B 021 on its way to Karimganj from Dimapur was held at Dillai gate. An abandoned khaki colour bag containing 60,000 numbers of suspected YABA tablets (orange colour) and four numbers of soap cases containing 45 grams of suspected heroine was seized.
Sources said that the recovered items were estimated at Rs 3.6 crore in the international market. A case vide Dillai PS C/No. 21(c)/22(c) NDPS Act was then registered for further investigation.
